About us
st. Mark Deaf Ministries Uganda is a community based organisation committed to uplifting the lives of Deaf and Hard of hearing people through empowerment, education, advocacy, and inclusion.
We work to ensure that every Deaf person can reach self sustenance with Dignity.
It is our goal, dream and motivation to see to it that every Deaf person is valued, understood, and able to participate fully in society.
Why We Exist
These are pressing issues that inspired the creation of St. Mark Deaf Ministries. Our organization seeks to address these challenges through advocacy, skills training, education support, and economic empowerment initiatives.
The Deaf community in Uganda faces severe barriers, including:
- High unemployment rates and limited livelihood opportunities
- Restricted access to information and educational services
- Widespread illiteracy and lack of skills development
- Neglect, stigma, and social exclusion
- Low self-esteem and poor self-image
- Cases of abuse, abandonment, and marginalization

Our Approach:
Cottage Industries for Sustainable Livelihoods
We operate through a cottage industry model, focusing on training and equipping Deaf persons with marketable skills to foster economic independence. Our goal is to create job opportunities and provide pathways to self-sustainability. Current areas of activity include:
Poultry Farming:
Training in raising poultry (Broilers)
Crafts and Handicrafts:
Production of handmade goods for sale
Urban Farming:
Growing vegetables and crops within city spaces
Knitting and Tailoring:
Sewing clothes, uniforms, and other textiles
Briquette-making:
Producing eco-friendly fuel alternatives

Advocacy, Services, and Support Programs
Beyond vocational training, St. Mark Deaf Ministries offers a variety of services to support the Deaf community:
Interpretation Services:
Bridging communication gaps in healthcare, education, and social settings
Counselling and Mentorship:
Promoting mental well-being and building self-esteem among Deaf persons
Advocacy:
Campaigning for equal rights, access to services, and policies** that uplift the Deaf community
Education Support:
Supporting the education of Deaf children and offering scholarships to further their learning. And etending scholastic materials to others.
Family Support:
Engaging with families to build an inclusive and supportive environment for Deaf children
legal representation:
In the face of legal challenges, st. Mark deaf ministries has partnered with a legal firm that offers legal aid to Deaf persons in pursuit of justice to and for these persons.
